The head of the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP), Rogelio Ramírez de la O, has appointed Diana Alarcón as Mexico's new representative to the World Bank, an international entity that provides financial and technical support to developing nations with the aim of fighting poverty.

Who is Diana Alarcón? Her career includes several significant positions at the international level. She has served as a senior economist at the International Labor Organization in Geneva, Switzerland, and was a visiting professor of Economics at American University in Washington, D.C. She also worked as a senior specialist at the Inter-American Institute for Social Development within the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington.

Diana Alarcón holds a degree in Economics from UNAM and earned her master's and doctorate degrees from the University of California, Riverside. From 1988 to 1995, she was a researcher in the Department of Economics at Colegio de la Frontera Norte, where she also served as director from 1994 to 1995. Between 2019 and 2023, she coordinated Advisors and International Affairs for the Government of Mexico City and was responsible for Foreign Policy within the Dialogues for Transformation, which helped establish the public policy agenda for the 2024-2030 period. She has also made significant contributions at the UN, where she worked as a senior economist in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs in New York and as a specialist in evaluation and poverty indicators for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), leading the Inclusive Development and Poverty Reduction Unit.
