Subsidio de Verano de la CFE Alcanzará los 100,000 Millones de Pesos

This year, the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) will maintain the highly anticipated summer subsidy due to the increase in energy consumption during the hot months in various regions of the country. This subsidy is estimated to amount to around 100 billion pesos.

What is the amount of the subsidy and how were the beneficiary locations chosen? How long will it be available?

The special rate for the heat season will apply exclusively to energy services intended for domestic use. However, this will only benefit those locations where the average minimum temperature reaches 25 degrees Celsius. The established rates are as follows: Basic consumption: 0.953 pesos for each of the first 100 kilowatt-hours. Intermediate consumption: 1.107 for each of the next 50 kilowatt-hours. Excess consumption: 3.805 for each additional kilowatt-hour beyond the previous ones. These rates are lower than those in the rest of the country, as this time of year requires intensive use of air conditioning and refrigeration systems. This week, President Claudia Sheinbaum reaffirmed that CFE subsidies will continue, with a cost that could reach up to 100 billion pesos. In addition, the government plans to install solar panels in municipalities like Mexicali, Baja California, to optimize the use of electrical energy. Here you can check the monthly update of the rates. According to the CFE, summer encompasses the six hottest months of the year, the range of which is determined by the supplier based on temperature observations made by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat). To check if your locality can receive the CFE summer subsidy, authorities use the monthly average temperature reports from Semarnat. These reports determine if a place has exceeded the average minimum temperature of 25 degrees Celsius for at least two consecutive months in three of the last five years; this is the criterion for applying the summer rate.

This subsidy program represents significant relief for households in Mexico, especially considering the impact of high energy costs on family budgets. It is crucial for the population to take advantage of these reduced rates and explore sustainable alternatives, such as solar energy, to further reduce their dependence on the CFE and promote more efficient energy consumption.
