Stunning Results from SAT Audits: An Income of 3.5 Trillion Pesos
The oversight work of the Tax Administration Service (SAT) has yielded excellent results during this nearly completed administration, especially concerning audits.
From 2019 until the end of August 2024, the treasury managed to collect 3.5 trillion pesos thanks to audits and compliance promotion efforts, representing a 120% increase compared to the previous period. Of this amount, 1.426 trillion pesos came from audits of large taxpayers; 1.087 trillion were collected from small and medium-sized taxpayers, according to a statement from the SAT issued this Monday. Additionally, 989.182 million pesos were generated through compliance promotion, accounting for single payments per taxpayer and payment dates in 2024. The SAT emphasized the work done to discourage aggressive tax planning practices among taxpayers and to increase the perception of risk among large taxpayers due to these measures. "We have scheduled audits with a more effective approach and shortened audit timelines. We also encouraged self-correction and timely collections; at the same time, we strengthened the verification of the application of excess value-added tax (VAT) balances," stated the SAT. "Thanks to these actions, we have achieved an increase in tax revenues without the need to raise or create new taxes, ensuring that tax collection is fair and equitable," it added.
It is impressive how the tax administration has managed to maximize tax revenues through audits and better management of contributions. This not only ensures a stronger tax base but also promotes an equitable environment among taxpayers, which is crucial for the sustained development of our economy. Undoubtedly, this approach could serve as a model for future administrations in their pursuit of fiscal efficiency.
