¡El SAT Extiende el Plazo para Activar el Buzón Tributario!

If you’re behind and still haven’t activated your tax mailbox, good news! The SAT has decided to give an extension so you can get it done without stress. According to the Tax Administration System, you now have until December 31, 2025, to set up your mailbox, meaning that starting January 1, 2026, all taxpayers will be required to comply with this requirement.

Who is required to register for the SAT Tax Mailbox?

"According to Article 113-G, section II of the Income Tax Law, as well as rule 3.13.32, it will be mandatory to have the mailbox activated by January 1, 2026," the tax authority highlighted in the Official Gazette of the Federation this Monday. The Federal Tax Code states that if you do not activate your Tax Mailbox or do not update your contact information, you could face fines ranging from 3,850 to 11,540 pesos. This mailbox is an essential tool for taxpayers in Mexico, as it facilitates communication between citizens and the SAT for notifying administrative actions. The activation of the Tax Mailbox is mandatory for all registered taxpayers in the Federal Taxpayers Registry (RFC), with some specific exceptions. Individuals with no tax obligations, those without registered economic activities, or those with suspended status have the option not to activate this tool. Similarly, legal entities with suspended tax status can choose not to do so. However, there are restrictions; those who need to perform specific procedures or who have issued Digital Tax Receipts via Internet (CFDI) in the last year must activate the Mailbox without fail. For individuals who are taxed under the Salary Income or subordinate personal service regime, they can decide not to activate it if their annual income did not exceed 400,000 pesos in the previous tax year. Meanwhile, taxpayers in the Simplified Trust Regime have until December 31, 2024, to activate their Mailbox.

Commenting on this matter, it’s vital for taxpayers to stay informed about these dates and requirements, as the lack of activation can lead to significant charges. Maintaining a good relationship with the SAT not only avoids penalties but also facilitates compliance with tax obligations, which is crucial for the financial stability of any individual or business in the country. Don’t let this extra time pass you by; take action before it’s too late!
