Antonio Martínez Dagnino continuará al mando del SAT bajo el gobierno de Sheinbaum

Antonio Martínez Dagnino will remain the head of the Tax Administration Service (SAT) in Claudia Sheinbaum's administration. “Antonio is staying (at the SAT). Most of the Treasury team will also stay,” the elected president declared at a press conference on Thursday.

Who is Antonio Martínez Dagnino?

Antonio became the head of the SAT in October 2022, after Raquel Buenrostro took over as the head of the Ministry of Economy. He holds a degree in Accounting and also has a Master's in Finance from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). According to government information, he has over ten years of experience in the Mexican Financial System and has worked in the areas of Fiscal and Tax Policy within the Federal Public Administration. His career includes roles in auditing, supervision, and analysis of financial instruments. At the National Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV), he was involved in implementing procedures to supervise the capital and liquidity of financial institutions. On December 1, 2018, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador appointed him as the head of the General Administration of Large Taxpayers (AGGC) at the SAT.

Final Comment: Antonio Martínez Dagnino’s continuity at the SAT seems to be a well-thought-out strategy to maintain fiscal stability and efficiency in tax collection. With his extensive experience, not only at the SAT but also across various areas of the financial system, it's likely that effective policies can be implemented to support the country's economic growth and strengthen confidence in the tax system. However, it will be crucial to see how they adapt to new dynamics and fiscal challenges in the coming years.
