Mexico Launches Investigation into Aluminum Tube Imports from the U.S. and China

The Secretariat of Economy announced on Wednesday, through the Official Gazette of the Federation, that it will initiate an anti-dumping investigation concerning the importation of hollow aluminum profiles coming from the United States and China, regardless of the shipping location. This action was prompted by complaints from local producing companies that provided evidence suggesting that these imports might be occurring at unfair prices, which harms the Mexican industry.
According to the resolution published, the investigation will cover the period from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024, while the assessment of damage to the local industry will extend from July 1, 2021, to June 30, 2024. With this action, the Secretariat aims to safeguard local manufacturers against potential unfair trade practices. Additionally, an invitation is extended to Mexican producers, importers, exporters, and the governments of China and the United States to participate in the investigation and present evidence and arguments in defense of their interests.
The intervention of the Secretariat of Economy in these types of imports is crucial for leveling the playing field in the local market. Protecting the national industry not only promotes competitiveness but also safeguards jobs and economic growth in the country. However, it is essential to find a balance that does not harm international trade relations and allows for the flow of goods at fair prices.
