Negociaciones para Un Acuerdo de Aranceles entre México y Canadá

Howard Lutnick, the U.S. Secretary of Commerce, stated that an announcement regarding the tariffs affecting products coming from Mexico and Canada is expected this Wednesday. This comes after discussions with President Donald Trump, who is considering the option of providing some relief to sectors such as automotive. Lutnick, in a conversation with Bloomberg TV, also mentioned that more extensive reciprocal tariffs are set to begin on April 2, although some will be implemented immediately while others could take weeks or months to put into effect.

"Representatives from Mexico and Canada have been in contact with me throughout the day, striving to demonstrate that they can improve the conditions, and the president is paying attention because it's a very fair and reasonable proposal... I believe there will be an agreement with them; it's not about making pauses or anything like that, but I think they'll reach an agreement: you improve and I'll be willing to find a middle ground, and we’ll probably announce it tomorrow," Lutnick said in an interview with Fox Business on Tuesday. This statement follows President Trump’s move that caused instability in the markets by activating a 25% tariff against his key trading partners, Canada and Mexico. After Lutnick's announcement, the Mexican peso and the Mexican Stock Exchange managed to reverse their losses.

It's interesting to see how these negotiations directly impact financial markets. Decisions about tariffs not only affect trade but also play a crucial role in the economic stability of both countries. Keeping lines of communication and negotiation open is essential to avoid tensions that could hinder economic growth in the region.
