Urgent Call from Coparmex Regarding Violence in Sinaloa
The Mexican Employers' Confederation (Coparmex), along with its 71 centers across the country, has demanded urgent action in response to the violence crisis affecting the state of Sinaloa, Mexico. "From Coparmex, we reaffirm that the only way to confront the challenges facing the region is with a comprehensive approach that combines security with social and economic development. Sinaloa should not be seen as an isolated case, but rather as a reflection of the problems we are facing as a nation," they stated in a press release. They emphasized that this climate of insecurity not only endangers the lives and well-being of families but also has a serious impact on the economy and social development of the region.
“We stand by those who are suffering and demand that authorities restore security, justice, and peace in Culiacán and the state of Sinaloa,” said José Medina Mora Icaza, national president of Coparmex, during the Confederation's General Assembly. Meanwhile, Martha Elena Reyes Zazueta, president of Coparmex Sinaloa, conveyed a message of gratitude and hope. “We invite society to recognize the support that Coparmex provides at the national level; we are not willing to accept violence, injustice, or economic instability as normal. We thank everyone present. We will overcome in Sinaloa and in all the states that need it,” Reyes Zazueta asserted. Coparmex highlighted that the situation in Sinaloa is concerning. Conflicts between criminal groups have significantly increased violence rates, impacting the safety of individuals and the economic stability of the region. Business closures and economic losses reflect a crisis that demands robust and immediate actions to safeguard the integrity and future of the population. “From Coparmex, we make a strong call to all three levels of government to implement effective strategies that ensure security and allow businesses to operate without limitations. Collaboration between authorities, the armed forces, and the productive sector is crucial to restoring trust and creating an environment of peace and prosperity in Sinaloa,” concluded Coparmex.
Final Comment: The grave situation facing Sinaloa underscores the connection between security and economic stability. In the current context, it is crucial for both the government and the private sector to work together to create a safe environment that fosters investment and economic growth. Without the right conditions, any recovery efforts will be hindered, which in turn will affect both the local economy and that of the entire country.
