Banxico lowers its economic growth forecast to 0.6%, previously 1.2%

On Wednesday, the Bank of Mexico (Banxico) adjusted the economic growth projections for the country for the year 2025. It is now estimated that GDP will grow by 0.6%, a significant drop from the 1.2% that was projected last November. For the year 2026, the growth forecast remains at 1.8%. Banxico warned that this estimate carries a high degree of uncertainty.
Regarding inflation, it is expected to reach the target of 3% during the third quarter of 2026, as stated in the monetary policy report from February. The governor of the central bank, Victoria Rodríguez, emphasized the need to ensure that political uncertainty in the United States does not overshadow the reduction in inflation that has been observed. However, the risk balance for inflation shows an upward bias. "Despite this, the inflationary effects arising from the pandemic and the onset of the conflict in Ukraine are in the process of being resolved," the bank noted. Banxico also projects that between 220,000 and 420,000 formal jobs will be created in the country during 2025, adjusting from the previous estimate of 250,000 to 350,000 jobs.
It's important to consider that a decrease in growth projections may reflect a more complex economic environment, which can affect investor confidence and employment. Staying informed about these figures is key to making informed decisions, both personally and for businesses. Maintaining sound financial management during uncertain times is essential to seize any opportunities that arise.
