Trump establece nueva fecha para los aranceles a México y Canadá: el 2 de abril

Donald Trump has announced that the 25% tariff on Mexico and Canada will be implemented on April 2, giving an additional deadline beyond the 30 days he had previously established, which was set to expire next week. He reiterated that the fentanyl problem, which causes millions of deaths in the United States, primarily originates in China and enters the country through Mexico and Canada.

"I was initially going to do it on April 1, but since I'm a bit superstitious, I decided to do it on April 2. The tariffs will continue, not all of them, but many of them, and I think you'll see something that will surprise you," Trump said. Earlier this month, his administration had marked March 4 as the start date for the 25% tariff on products from Mexico and non-energy goods from Canada. The White House did not immediately provide further details regarding the president's comments. Following this announcement, the Mexican peso strengthened, trading at 20.3865 per dollar, with a 0.38% increase compared to Monday's reference price, although it had earlier seen an increase of more than 0.80%. Trump also indicated that tariffs for the European Union will be 25% overall. "We will announce them very soon, and they will be 25%, covering both cars and other products," he emphasized in his first cabinet meeting. Information from Reuters.

In this context, it is crucial to observe how the implementation of these tariffs may impact not only the Mexican economy but also trade relations in the region. Historically, changes in trade policies have generated volatility in the markets. Therefore, it is advisable for both investors and businesses to stay informed and be prepared to face potential fluctuations in exchange rates and their operational costs.
